CreedenWow. Just wow. This author really blows me away with her ability to show how brokeness and pain can be made something beautiful by the love of Christ. There is a difference between being a church-goer and a true follower of Christ. Without preaching or forcing the story to move in the direction that she wants, this author makes her statement as a seamless part of what the characters must go through in order to find healing.The decisions the characters make are reasonable and beliveable. And things do not come easily. There's no - get saved and everything falls into place. The author shows the truth of what becoming a warrior for Christ really means - becoming stronger not weaker. Becoming smarter, not naive. Losing the mentality of sheep and becoming soldiers. This book is inspiring and uplifting. A deep read. Now, everything was falling apart and Mike couldn't fix it.Mike and Leanne's daughter was not normal but Mike kept overriding Leanne's concerns urging her to give Karen more time and understanding.Leanne was falling apart; the strain of caring for a 4-year-old autistic daughter, a 2-year-old rambunctious son, hiding from her past and her marriage crumbling was causing her to withdraw even deeper into her feelings of self-loathing.Mike wouldn't listen and Leanne couldn't tell.I'll Settle for Love (The Trampled Rose Series) follows the life of Leanne and Mike McKinley as their marriage is falling down around them. The novel is filled with many scriptural truths and practical applications that everyone can use but especially those hurt and hurting.Michelle Lynn Brown writes a raw and inspirational book about abuse, self-loathing and the dangers of "playing" at Christianity. Just one warning-once you start reading you won't want to put it down.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Facing the truth about sexual abuse and autism!By Richard and LizAs the beginning opens, we get a glimpse into some of what Leanne has experienced: sexual abuse and a very opinionated, downing mother. The main story starts after Mike and Leanne have been married for eight years. Although Mike knows how hard Leanne's mother is on her, he has NO idea of the abuse she experienced from her stepfather. She always led him to believe that she was a virgin just like him on her wedding night as she did not want him to reject her.Now, eight years on with two children, cracks are beginning to appear. Their eldest child, Karen, is exhibiting some strange behavior and the daycare provider suggests that Mike and Leanne get her tested for autism. Experience what this couple goes through as they face the reality that their child is not "normal." Will it strengthen or weaken their relationshipMike wants his marriage to work. Even when an old flame comes along he refuses to be tempted. When he suggests that the children go visit Leanne's parents for the weekend so him and Leanne can get away, he does not understand why Leanne is so upset and adamant not to let them go especially as when his parents offer to have the children it is OK.Will Leanne learn the importance of a strong foundation in Jesus Will she tell Mike the truth about her past no matter the outcome How will Mike react in all thisThis story captures two very "tough" subjects - autism and sexual abuse. It is a Christian book written on Christian principles. Both Mike's father and brother are pastors and offer Mike good advice throughout. Although this is the third and final book in the series, it can be read independently as each story is very separate. I highly congratulate the author for tackling these issues in a fictional/real life setting.Anything I didn't like It could use some editing. The author has a problem using capitals/upper case inappropriately after speech marks. (I suspect it could be her editing program.) For example: " "Let me get her in bed." He mouthed. " It should read, "Let me get her in bed," he mouthed. This error occurs numerous times throughout the book which although doesn't detract from the story is annoying to those who notice.See all 38 customer reviews...
