The first chapter went smoothly enough, with Alys and Michael meeting. Alys came off as kind of mean and pushy. She's an eyeball roller. Michael is addicted to sweets in a way that I found to be strange. The author gave to much explanation instead of moving the story along. Getting from scene to scene seemed contrived and boring. These people were interesting in a way, though I wasn't invested in them as a romance. I quit reading, but may attempt to pick it up again later.20 of 21 people found the following review helpful.Didn't Like the "Heroine"By Single chickI didn't care for Alys, the heroine of this story. She was very selfish and self-involved. She only reacted to things based on how they affected her. For instance (SPOILER), when her husband found out his brother might not have died overseas as he had been told, Alys's immediate and only reaction is to be upset over what this may mean for her and her marriage. No relief that a beloved brother might be alive, nothing. WTF Who thinks like that And the immaturity and selfishness seems to be a family trait. Alys's sister Matilda is also completely self-absorbed and stupid, to boot.I liked the basic premise of the story, and the hero, Michael (though I question his taste in friends), but Alys and her sister were awful. I thought the writing was good and the story fresh and unique.I thought Alys was a very good heroine - she was a bit off putting at first, but as the story progressed she seemed to thaw and come into her own. Michael was also a good hero, I liked him right away.Honestly, I thought this book was going to be lighthearted fluff, but there is nothing light or fluffy about this book.I found many aspects of the story interesting and wish the author had given more details, for example: Michael's low blood sugar was never formally diagnosed. Was he diabetic What about his motherMy only complaints with the book are first I wish there had been an epilogue, I would have liked to have some answers. It looks like the next book starts shortly after this one ends, so maybe my answers are there. And second, I didn't really feel any emotion in the book - I have no idea when they fell in love and there are not really many scenes with just the two of them.Bottom line - I liked the book and I will read One Taste of Scandal.See all 174 customer reviews...
